Academic Integrity
Academic Integrity
One of the basic purposes of university education is to cultivate independent thinking ability; therefore postgraduate students should not copy the work or the argument as their own. Any form of plagiarism, as serious as cheating in tests or exams, shall be punished in accordance with university constitution.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is the behavior of copying others' works (especially other writings), including online data as their work. The most obvious and a large number of plagiarism will be the publication of whole articles, sections, paragraphs or whole sentences without indication, which is clearly unacceptable. Even if students only copy numbers or paraphrase (no actual record of any text), not specifying the data source also constitutes plagiarism. Sometimes students are not deliberately copying, but they could also be accused of plagiarism simply because they do not pay attention to the strict rules. If the source of information can be identified, it must be put into quotation marks or paraphrased, and properly referenced. Postgraduate students please visit the University website:https://registry.cuhk.edu.cn/en/page/30,specially the section of submitting homework through honesty system, to learn detailed guidelines and examples of identifying sources of information, and the University requirements of homework submission.
Disciplinary Sanction
All cases of plagiarism or cheating in exams or tests will be handled by the Students Discipline Committee in accordance with the guidelines below:General Regulations Governing Postgraduate Studies, from 17.1 to 17.2 For a first offence, a minimum penalty of one demerit and a mark of zero for that component of the course; in the case of a second offence or recidivism, a penalty of two demerits and a mark of zero for that component of the course.
